The Chepstow Basic School has been in operation since the 1970s. The school was built by Jamaica Social Investment Fund (JSIF a funding agency) after a request was made by the community. It has 3 classrooms, 1 computer room, 3 small bathrooms, 1 kitchen and a store room, a verandah with half acre of land. It houses 30-35 children maximum between the ages of 2-6.

In partnership with U.R.G.E., this model school for the new Jamaican Early Childhood curriculum (birth – 6) encourages OBSERVATION and RECORDING progress in the various domains of development so that adequate activities and opportunities can be provided for learning. The board consists of some members of the community as well as some parents. By doing this the school was able to maintain its Board with members of U.R.G.E. added. The community is still responsible for the daily upkeep of the school as it belongs to them. U.R.G.E. is involved in not only building an additional room and supplying material needs, but also in being a part of deciding what direction the school should take, as well as being able to expand the curriculum as we see fit (above the expected government standards).

Please donate to U.R.G.E. so that we can continue to support the young minds of Jamaica!
