U.R.G.E. has teamed up with Against Against Hunger for a new project focusing on improving water and sanitation access for a number of schools in Tanzania . This project also supports educational work targeted at supporting young girls.
Some specifics of the project include:
- Construct four new latrines that offer safe access to good quality sanitation and handwashing facilities. The latrines will use a pour-flush system to safely dispose of waste, provide a locked door for privacy, and meet national recommended guidelines.
- Work with teachers and community leaders to set up new ‘WASH Clubs’ in school, to provide a safe space to discuss sanitation and hygiene-related issues, including good menstrual hygiene management, adolescent nutrition and sexual reproductive health.
- Train 20 teachers to promote good menstrual hygiene management, care and psychosocial support for adolescent girls.
- Work with community members and leaders to provide ongoing support to monitor, plan and manage school WASH activities with a target of reaching 3,500 community members including community health workers and village leaders.
